Gym Barbie: Do ladies have to dress up for Work Outs?

By Sylvia Masongole.

In every gym, there is always that gym barbie with a gorgeous body, perfect hair, carefully applied make up and all dressed up. This gym barbie rarely sweats, infact the gym’s florescent lighting is always working in her favor, making her glow.

The rest of the gym gurus are all sweaty with their gym wear soggy, looking like melted candles.

I always think to myself, why get dolled up only to labor away at the gym burning calories? Or maybe the gym barbie is out here to impress the hot gym trainers?

Another gym barbie would openly confess, ” you never know who you may run into at the gym; your soulmate maybe!”

Well, quarantine period is here with us and gym barbies have to maintain their summer bodies while at home.

The beauty about working out from home is;

One, it comes with so much comfort. I mean, its your space.

Two, the only person to compare yourself to is, well, you!

Three and the most important part is you’re less likely to catch strange germs or viruses like Corona.

That said, here are some of the gym attire you may need while working out during quarantine.

Gym Gloves

In as much as some people don’t believe in using gym gloves, these gloves have benefits especially when doing weightlifting exercises.

Gym gloves prevent callouses. These are hard formed skin caused by friction. They are painful and uncomfortable.

Gym gloves also help in wrist support. The wrap around strap offer an extended wrist support especially for lifting weights above your capacity.

Knee Sleeves

Knee sleeves are essential because they provide support to your knees while working out.

These knee sleeves are designed and used to protect either a previous knee injury or future knee injury, since knees are put under great pressure daily while running, jumping and even weightlifting.

Sports Shoes

Finding the right sports shoes for working out can be such a headache! Gym instructors recommend that if you wish to find the comfortable shoes to work out in you need to try on shoes in the afternoon or in the evening or even after your work out. During these times, your feet are largest. Also, do not forget to wear socks.

Wearing the right work out shoes helps to prevent foor injuries such as fractures.

Good shoes also cushion the feet from heavy landings.

Finally, World Health Organization recommends 150 minutes of moderate exercises or 75 minutes of vigorous physical exercises per week.

Let’s grab our lightweight t-shirts and gym shorts and burn some calories at the comfort of our homes during quarantine!
